| In the framework of preparation to celebrate the six hundredth anniversary of French castle Château des Réaux, its owner, the poet Evgeny Yukhnytsya, welcomes participating in creation of a Modern Art Gallery in Château des Réaux castle with the topic of “Women’s and Men’s Legs in the Art of the Beginning of the Third Millennium”. The exhibition topic is developed in the following subtopics: A. Classical Delightful Woman’s Legs of the Third Millennium B. Humoristic or Satirical View on Modern Legs C. Man’s Legs Evolved till Present D. Your View on Four Legs of Two Persons in one work Acceptance of works to the gallery Terms of participation 1. Works should be obligatorily painted by oil (on canvas or any other material); the dimensions are starting from 61cm x 38cm or more (of any shape as you desire – a rectangular shape, a circle, etc.). 2. Artist’s works should be dated and signed. A brief biography attached to the canvas is desirable. 3. Each work should be original: copies are not accepted. Terms of selection The acceptance of works is done by jury, the members of which are art and literature figures. EACH sent work corresponding to one of the topics (A, B, C, and D) will be surely bought by the gallery. However, the organizer reserves his right to make a final choice. The work’s price is a token one, for those who accept it, of 305 Euros / 228 GBP, with the transfer of author’s rights and will be included into the composition of the constantly operating exhibition in the castle or other places as well as its reproduction will appear in the catalogue of exhibition . Not selected paintings will be returned to their authors. The finish of works acceptance is 01.09.08.Registration for participation To participate in this enterprise, you should register at the castle web-site. 1. leave your contact information on the page of the competition procedure. 2. read and sign the contract of transfer of author’s rights in case of purchasing. 3. fill in the questionnaire “Finished Works”. Delivery Art works are accepted by the address: Château des Réaux 51, rue des Réaux 37140 Chouzé sur Loire France Mail delivery will be arranged at the expense of the castle. For safety purposes, please send paintings by registered mail. For those who don’t want to risk to send their works, they can send a painting photo to chateaudesreaux@gmail.com. You get an answer whether to send the painting or not within some days after its reception. By February 2009 we will start constantly operating exhibitions in the castle and in Paris. All works accepted till 30th of July 2008 will then participate in the competition with five Prizes in each category (A, B, C, D).Prizes: 1st Prize – award in the amount of 4,000 euros 2nd Prize – award in the amount of 2,200 euros 3rd Prize – award in the amount of 1,800 euros 4th Prize – award in the amount of 1,200 euros 5th Prize – award in the amount of 800 euros

Letter from the owner
Dear artists, I was induced to write this letter through your telephone calls, text messages and letters. Just on New Year’s Eve their amount exceeded a hundred and this has become a serious signal for me! Firstly, I am grateful for your support and high esteem of the competition idea. Your warm words will fulfill the hearts of the inhabitants of the Château des Réaux with harmony and will take the right place in the Catalogue of the Gallery! Secondly, I would happily reply to the main question which has two aspects: what should be painted and why should it be in oil? It is still preferable to see Legs as the main object of your works. Art has always been a transference of past, present and future through images. And legs always enchant, thanks to these fairy wheels we can move, stand on earth, bear our cross, charm everyone around and leave someone behind in time! They are equal with thoughts; they are our magic carpet and support. That is why if you have an idea how to show your view to the world, evolution, message to the humans through legs, that’s it! Someone will show them gracefully, respectably, stable, the other – cowardly, shaky, retreating, untidy someone will demonstrate them healthy, athletic, expressive, the other frightful in anger, imperious in fight, someone sees them smartly dressed, variegated like a parrot, stylish and modern. And the sentimentality of legs… sensuality, tactfulness, courageous and youthful show off and adult firmness. Perhaps legs have characters as their owners do or show the characters of their owners, characters of jobs, titles, age. Rich and poor, beggar and mad, crippled and disabled, who always wait for the Creator’s attention, have legs. People of different nationalities, living in different climatic zones, different countries and cultures also have legs. The topic A is not opened completely in legs décor, variety of footwear, palette of colors and national symbolism. The artists view on the legs construction is also very interesting. The topics and ideas are countless, as countless as the number of talented people is on Earth! And that is great! As to painting in oils, I am reasoning from the fact that your pictures will outlive all of us and even increase their influence in hundreds of years, and oil is just what you need! If anyone uses the medium that is equally or even more stable and penetrating as oil is, we are waiting for your works!!! And one more thing, having such a possibility I would like to tell the following: we are trying to find you through your popularity, through your membership in wonderful associations (separate gratitude to the leaders of the associations), through recommendations and your works. And if you have talented friends, colleagues, competitors please tell them about the creation of the Gallery. It is always so interesting how you see the world and your colleague! There are plenty of topics in Nature, not for one Millennium!!! If only people could retain, if only our Legs could have enough strength in enduring us with our sometimes shocking plans and ways of life!!! Thank you!
